Billy Thorpe - Million Dollar Bill

William Richard "Billy" Thorpe AM was an Australian musician who achieved fame as a pop singer in the 1960s and a hard rocking guitarist in the 1970s. And like mosy Australian pop and rock stars of the 1960s and 1970s, Billy was born in the UK. He then when on to further fame in the US in the 1980s where he is best known for the album Children Of The Sun.

While Children Of The Sun is often referred to as Billy's first solo album, Million Dollar Bill was actually the first album credited to just Billy Thorpe, despite including Aztec stalwarts Gil 'Rathead' Matthews and Warren 'Pig' Morgan. In a change of direction from the hard rocking Aztecs sound of the early 1970s, Million Dollar Bill features a strong funk sound throughout, with the exception of what is Billy's second most famous song in Australia, the breezy summer hit It's Almost Summer.

Billy Thorpe passed away suddenly on 28 February 2007.

Credit Where Credit Is Due: Like other links on this site, these links were found through extensive internet searches, sometimes on some fairly dodgy sites. Occasionally the links are found on forums that allow the posting of currently in-print albums, which I do not condone.
